On Tuesday, July 18, the Collaborative for Effective Prescription Opioid Policies convened a roundtable discussion in Washington, D.C. on barriers to access for medication-assisted treatment (MAT) of opioid use disorder.
CEPOP organized a briefing on Capitol Hill in Washington on July 13 on the topic of “Preventing Diversion of Opioid Medications: Safe Storage and Disposal Strategies.” The event was held from 3 to 4 p.m. in the U.S. Capitol Building. National experts were on hand for a discussion of initiatives to safeguard these medications in the home and other settings.
On March 7, CEPOP and BD held an Acute Care Opioid Safety and Diversion Prevention Roundtable in Washington, D.C. An array of stakeholders with experience from the clinical and governmental perspectives came together in a structured, full-day dialogue.

Approximately 6.1 million Americans abuse or misuse prescription drugs, and more than 60 Americans die every day from a prescription drug overdose. Overdose deaths involving prescription painkillers have quadrupled since 1999 and now outnumber deaths from all illicit drugs, including heroin and cocaine, combined.
